BEHIND THE GAME

Follow the development of Project Golf Board Game from an idea on paper to a finished tabletop golf game.

We'll share the decisions, prototypes, artwork, playtesting and occasional wrong turns that shape the game along the way.

THE CARDS BEHIND THE GAME

Cards bring much of the variety, strategy and unpredictability of golf to the tabletop. From shaping the outcome of a shot to dealing with hazards, conditions and tactical decisions, different card types influence the game in different ways.

Take a look at some of the cards being developed for Project Golf Board Game and what each one brings to a round.

ACTION CARDS

Action Cards recreate those moments when a golf shot doesn't quite go to plan. Hooks, slices and other wayward shots can send the ball away from its intended line and force the player to adapt.

They add an element of unpredictability to every round — because, just like real golf, even a well-planned shot doesn't always end up where you expected.

HAZARD CARDS

Finding a hazard doesn't mean every shot turns out the same way. When a ball lands in a bunker or water hazard, a Hazard Card determines what happens next.

Some cards may offer a lucky escape, while others can make a difficult situation even worse. They bring the uncertainty of real golf into the game and make every visit to a hazard a little different.

POWER CARDS

Power Cards give players greater control over the strength of a shot. They can be used to increase or reduce distance, helping a player judge an approach, avoid trouble or get closer to the target.

But greater control doesn't mean a guaranteed result. The shot still has to be played — and, just like real golf, even the best-laid plan can go wrong.

GREEN LOCATION CARDS

Reaching the green is only part of the challenge — where the ball finishes matters too. Green Location Cards determine the player's starting position for the putting phase.

This adds some of the uncertainty of real golf. A shot that looks perfectly judged might roll further than expected, while another can come up short, leaving a very different putt than the player had hoped for.

SPECIAL CARDS

Sometimes every golfer needs a little help. Special Cards bring some familiar golfing traditions to the tabletop and can provide a welcome escape when things don't quite go to plan.

The Mulligan gives a player one chance per round to forget a wayward drive and play the tee shot again — a favourite among amateur golfers everywhere.

The Gimmie can save a player from those nerve-racking final few feet on the green. Finish within one grid space of the hole and another player can concede the putt — but, just like on the golf course, you're relying on the generosity of your playing partners.

PLAYER GUIDES

A little information can make all the difference when planning the next shot. The Guide Sheets give players quick access to the information they need without slowing down the game.

Power Card guides cover both fairway shots and putting, showing how different cards can affect shot strength and distance. A Dice Guide helps players judge the likelihood of achieving a particular result before committing to a shot.

The Scorecard does more than record scores. It provides information about each hole on the course and identifies the flag location for each green, giving players what they need to plan their way around the course.
